Technical UX audit of test-drive request forms across the 45 scoreable car brands sold in France, measured with the Exatom form-audit engine (ExatomScore). Scores run 0–10, higher is better, weighted across five categories. 63 brands were researched and 51 offer a live online test-drive form; six of those could not be auto-scored for technical reasons – see Design analysis – and are excluded from the ranking below.

Measures how usable the test-drive form is for everyone: contrasting field borders, input and label colours, label font size and label spacing. Mazda leads (7.7), followed by Mini and Omoda & Jaecoo (7.3); Lynk & Co (2.7) and Zeekr (2.8) trail. The weakest single check is field-border contrast, which 24 of 45 brands fail outright. Field average: 5.4. Weight in overall score: x6.
Covers how quickly the test-drive form page appears and becomes ready for interaction. Weight in overall score: x5.
Evaluates field alignment and size, font consistency, form position, form size and labels above fields. Dacia, Leapmotor, Maserati, Polestar and Renault all reach 8.0 – style is France's strongest category. DS Automobiles, Mercedes-Benz and Opel are weakest (2.9), mostly because the form sits below the fold. Field average: 6.5. Weight in overall score: x4.
Covers autocomplete, CTA colour and text, first-field focus, keyboard navigation, number of fields and sensible dropdown and radio lengths. Land Rover leads (7.0); Škoda and Lotus trail (2.5). Beyond the universal first-field-focus failure, over-long dropdowns and generic CTA text ('Envoyer' rather than 'Réservez votre essai') are the weakest checks. Field average: 5.4. Weight in overall score: x6.
The most conversion-relevant category technically: correct input types (e.g. type=email), real label elements and a proper form element – driving native validation, autofill and assistive-technology support. BMW, DS Automobiles, Mercedes-Benz, Mini and Opel are exemplary (8.0); Xpeng (0.2), Leapmotor (0.3) and BYD (0.8) – three new Chinese EV brands – leave easy wins on the table. Widest spread in the benchmark. Field average: 4.6. Weight in overall score: x6.
Structural audit of the test-drive request forms of all 51 brands with a live French form, plus VinFast and Isuzu, which offer none. Brands lean single-step (30 of 51) over multi-step (21), where three-step wizards dominate – and the Stellantis FCA wizard asks for personal details before the dealer is chosen. Dealer locators are near-universal, but only seven brands carry the browsed model into the form and one in five offers a date & time picker. Personal-data fields range from 4 to 8, with a median of 5.
